Homosexual couple
Attending a Family Gathering Including a Homosexual Couple
This is a delicate situation. You have good reason to be concerned about the potential impact on your kids, especially in view of the disturbing changes we’re seeing in social attitudes towards marriage and sexuality in this country. As a parent, you do have a responsibility to guard the innocence of your children, and you’re to be commended on taking that aspect of your role so seriously.
At the matching time, we also think you’re right to be concerned about keeping up a positive impact and a strong Christian witness in the lives of your sister-in-law and her partner. After all, they’re people, too – individuals created in God’s image and objects of His unfailing devote. We realize you feel as if you’re facing a real dilemma, but we believe you can achieve both objectives without compromising.
Let’s face it: as Christians living in a non-Christian planet, we always possess to be “wise as serpents and innocent as doves.” In the parenting context, this means figuring out how to protect your children physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually while still maintainin
I want you to meet a rather unique couple. Their names are Sarah and Lindsey, but don’t form your opinions too quickly. Yes, Sarah and Lindsey are partners. Yes, they are attracted to the same sex. But no, they are not married nor are they engaging in sexual relations. They are celibate. Now, before you race to declare where you “stand” on this situation—Is it sin?! Is it not a sin!? Why are they partners and not just roommates?!—why don’t you get to know them first? If you’re an evangelical Christian, and you’re heterosexual, and you are wrestling with the scrutinize of homosexuality, the best suggestion I can give you is to stop and listen. To listen is to love and to learn—few people ever grasp anything while they are talking or racing to form views with ear plugs in.
So let’s listen to the story of Sarah and Lindsey.
PS: Thanks Sarah Lindsey for sharing your story with us. Why don’t you begin by telling us a little about yourselves. Who you are, what you do, and how long you’ve been together?
S&L: Thanks, Preston, for interviewing us. It’s a little weird to introduce ourselves as a couple. We are both Christians, we work as teachers, and we love sharing life.
