Tom Hardy On How He Approached The Sexuality of the Kray Twins In ‘Legend’
One of the many major films that made their world premieres at Venice or Telluride this past week was Brian Helgeland’s “Legend,” which finds Tom Hardy starring as both of the Kray twins, Ronnie and Reggie — gangsters who terrorized London in the 1950s and 1960s. Ronnie was at the very least openly bisexual person, and the production thankfully didn’t conceal that fact. At one point in the film he says to a bunch of American gangsters: “I prefer boys. Italian. Sometimes Greek, but I’m not prejudiced.”
Hardy gave an interview to the Gay Times about the roles, and when they asked him about how he approached the sexuality of the character, he said: “Do you know what? I didn’t even think about it, it’s just what it is. Ronnie was gay, so if I thought too much about that, it might give me a pause to ponder I had to do something diverse. Instead, I had to just receive on with what I was doing.”
A lot of historians actually believe that both twins were gay, which Hardy acknowledged in the interview and said it actually m
Tom Hardy: sexuality scrutinize was 'inelegant and humiliating'
Tom Hardy has said he secure down a news writer who asked about his sexuality at a Toronto clip festival press conference this week because the line of questioning was inelegant and humiliating.
Hardy, who has been unmistakable in the media for many years that he is heterosexual, said he considered the way in which the question was posed – in a public forum to promote his modern film Legend – as an invasion of privacy.
“That really, really annoyed me,” Hardy told Fun Weekly. “It was just the inelegance of being asked in a room full of people … Now I’m happy to contain a conversation, a discussion, at a reasonable time about anything. I’m confident in my retain sexuality, and I’m also confident in my own organism and talking about any issue you want to discuss about it. But there is a time and a place for that.”
Hardy has portrayed numerous gay and vertical characters during his career. In the mob biopic Legend, he plays both Reggie Kray, who was heterosexual, and his twin brother Ronnie, who was openly bisexual.
On 13 September in Toronto, Hardy was asked: “Is it challenging for celebrities to talk to the media about their
Enough already, Tom Hardy!
Today, Tom Hardy was questioned about comments regarding his retain sexuality which he made on the record to a gay publication at the beginning of his career. These comments apparently do not serve the career path on which he now finds himself, despite the fact that in his latest clip he plays an openly gay historical figure. So instead of providing an answer, he unleashed a series of reactions most would have described as bullying and hostile had the subject been something other than his potential bisexuality. As a outcome, he publicly shamed a reporter for asking him a legitimate question about comments he had previously made on the register. Worse, he was largely enabled in this endeavor by fawning Internet headlines praising him as having “expertly shut down” the reporter in question, as if any inquiry into his sexuality from the press was on par with his having been falsely accused of a crime.
Enough of this. Enough of allowing actors once they reach a certain threshold of fame to act like they’ve been violated or shamed by any question that suggests they might not be one hundred percent heterosexual. Asking a handsome new male act

Speaking at a press conference for 'Legend' in London on Thursday, the 37-year-old star said, "Do you know what I didn't even think about it. I don't think it needs playing, that's that. Ronnie was gay, does that make sense? If I thought about then that would give me pause to believe about it, but I just had to get on with doing what I'm doing which is my job."
