Gotham Knights: 6 Things About Nightwing The Game Changes From The Comics

Dick Grayson has gone through quite the character development in DC Comics. He is one of their oldest characters and started as their youngest. Dick Grayson was the first Robin, the original Boy Wonder, who after tragically losing his parents, was adopted by Bruce Wayne and helped in Batman’s war in Gotham City.

With every adaption, things alter in slight ways so that these characters are the matching, but with creative differences that help the developers tell their own story with iconic DC Comics characters. Nightwing features in Gotham Knights as the same quipping hero, but with a few differences between Gotham Knights and DC Comics.

6 Never Reconciled With Bruce

Nightwing and Batman certainly had their differences for a while. The two would debate and disagree constantly when Dick Grayson was growing up as Robin until the duo had enough, and Dick Grayson left Gotham for Bludhaven and took on his hold identity of Nightwing. It wasn’t long before the two reconciled, and the adoptive fa

Pride is a tricky time for a lot of double attraction people. Many own spent a lifetime between two worlds. Not hetero enough to fit in with the straights while at the same time not feeling like we have the right to exist visibly in queer spaces. It’s one of the reasons why it took me so long to publicly out myself as bisexual. The stigmas attached to my identity were intense to deal with so for a long moment I just… didn’t. It’s possible I might have never come to terms with who I am had it not been for Nightwing’s ass.

Until 2018 I appreciated comics from a distance. Sure, I peruse grocery store Archie digests and my brother’s floppies but I didn’t commence a regular drag or collecting trade paperbacks until my close friend and writing partner of seven years died of cancer that August. He and I had been the editorial team at a website dedicated to RPG video games, and as much as I still enjoyed gaming, I couldn’t write about it anymore. It felt wrong without him. So, I left that website to explore comic books.

Finding comics as an adult is difficult because there are so many barriers to entry. Awareness character lineages and general contin

Dick Grayson is one of the longest-tenured characters in DC Comics. He was introduced decades ago as Robin, Batman’s ultimate sidekick, but later grew into his own when he became the superhero Nightwing. With a colossal influx of LGBTQ representation in comics, fans wonder – is Nightwing gay, bisexual, or vertical in the comics?

Dick Grayson, aka Nightwing, was never anything but heterosexual in the comics. He’s had several relationships and affairs over the years, and all of them were with female characters. He eventually married Barbara Gordon, aka Batgirl. However, in the video game, Gotham Knights, he appears to be bisexual.

It was never explicitly stated, but a message in the game between Dick Grayson and Barbara Gordon would suggest that Nightwing is bisexual, as opposed to the comic book version that’s straight. That being said, other versions of Robin – such as Tim Drake – are bisexual, so let’s dig into Nightwing’s history in comics and other media.

Is Nightwing gay, vertical, or bisexual in the comics?

I’m a huge fan of newer comics finally giving the proper representation for various communities in the form of character diversity. Let’s be honest,

Batman and Robin are probably one of the most famous duos out there.  With multiple renditions in comics, TV shows, and movies, the Caped Crusader and the Boy Wonder are inseparable, so much so that there have been repeated claims of gay subtext. However, there’s always been an imbalance in their relationship: Batman is obviously the hero.  Robin is the sidekick.  And as much as Robin was needed to balance out Batman’s brooding darkness, Robin has largely been regarded as a joke.  Christian Bale only agreed to be Batman after assuring that Robin would not be included in the series.  Regrettably, this has resulted in Robin not getting the advocacy he deserves.

Until now, that is.  Well, until 2025-ish, probably.  Chris McKay, director of the LEGO Batman movie, is pursuing a live-action Nightwing film. The adult Nightwing, actual name Dick Grayson, is more intense than his younger Robin self, thereby lending a lot more material to play with in a solo motion picture.  Robin fans and feminists should rejoice!

Wait, what was that last part?

Yes, a Nightwing movie is a great opportunity for feminist comic fans.  While Nightwing is yet another male superhero who is
