Ricky Martin reveals passionate reason he came out as male lover after being warned it would 'end' his career
Ricky Martin has revealed the emotional reason he decided to publicly come out as gay – despite his former team claiming it would "be the terminate of your career".
The 52-year-old confirmed his sexuality in 2010 at the age of 38 in a letter he posted on Twitter, now X, after years of speculation.
Ricky admitted that it was his father, former psychologist Enrique Morales, who encouraged him to show up out to evade teaching his children to "lie".
The Palm Royale star is father to 15-year-old twin sons Matteo and Valentino – whom he welcomed via surrogate in 2008 – and shares daughter Lucia, five, and son Renn, four, with his ex-husband, Jwan Yosef.
During an interview on Sirius XM's Andy Cohen Live, he recalled the conversation he had with his dad, who told him: "Rick, you need to come out."
Ricky added: "Especially when I became a father, he said, 'What are you going to [do] coach your kids, to lie? You gotta be open. You gotta go out... I want to help you. How can we undertake this?'

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Ricky Martin knew his sexuality was the subject of speculation in the celebrity world for years. Still, he never confirmed that he was gay until his tweet heard 'round the world earlier this year for one simple reason: He just wasn't ready.
"I wasn't living a lie," insists Martin, who at 38 still looks like the heartthrob who made hearts flutter when he was a teen in the band Menudo and later as a global pop sensation.
"I was living my animation at the moment, very brisk. I started in the melody business when I was 12 years old and I did not stop until 2003, until I took a moment to step out of the spotlight and really analyze what my life was about," he said in an interview Tuesday.
Much of that analysis is included in his autobiography, "Me," released this week. The book is consecrated to his 2-year-old twins, Matteo and Valentino, who inspired him to finally be open about the life he leads.

These days Ricky Martin is happily raising four children with his husband, Jwan Yosef, but he said getting to this moment in his life was a long journey of self-discovery.
"Am I gay? Am I bisexual? Am I confused? What am I?" Martin, 49, reflected on his past thoughts in a new interview with People for the magazine's second annual Pride issue.
"Sexuality is one complicated thing. It's not black and pale. It's filled with colors," the "Livin' La Vida Loca" singer continued. "When I was dating website women, I was in love with women. It felt right, it felt beautiful. You can't fake chemistry -- the chemistry was there with them. I wasn't misleading anyone."
Martin dated "lots of women," including model and TV presenter Rebecca de Alba, even while the press speculated about his sexuality, he said. He would date men in private, too. In 2000, when he was 29, he was asked by Barbara Walters on national television if he was gay.
"You could end these rumors," Walters told him at the time. "You could
