Senor Chang's "Ha, Gay!"

About

Senor Chang's "Gayyyyy" or Ha, Gay refers to a quote attributed to the unreal character Señor Ben Chang in the TV sitcom series Community. Due to Chang's unusual enunciation, coupled with his questionably sophomoric pos choice, the scene has lent itself to many parodies and YouTubePoop remixes on sites love Tumblr and YouTube.

Origin

The quote was first heard in Community's season two premiere episode titled "Anthropology 101," which aired on September 23rd, 2010. In one of the scenes, Jeff Winger (Joel McHale) tries to inspire his students by telling the class that "the most important tool is respect," to which Señor Ben Chang (played by Ken Jeong) simply retorts "Ha, gayyyyy!"

The clip from the episode was subsequently uploaded by YouTuber lolocaust0 on September 29th. The video was also featured on the front page of Reddit and went on to accumulate over 1.1 million views as of April 2012.

On November 5th, 2010, webcomic musician Stephen Gillan referenced Señor Chang's quote in his Antics Comic series, which became widely famous as the Homophobic Seal among the fans. In this particular comic, two men decide

About

Homophobic Seal (also established as "Gay Seal") is a webcomic character that is recognizable for its catchphrase "GAAAAAAYYYY." It is often added on to the bottom of an image to dismiss everything above as naive, weak or saccharine.

Origin

On November 5th, 2010, the webcomic blog Antics Comic published a six-pane comic titled "Survival Insticts" in which two men embrace each other in an arctic blizzard in order to stay heated, causing a seal to yell "GAAAAAAYYYY."

While speculative at best, the seal's punchline bears similarities to the line "Ha, Gayyyyy" shouted by Señor Ben Chang, a recurring character in the TV sitcom series Community, in an episode that aired on September 23rd, 2010.

The "Gay Seal"single topic blog, which reblogs various Tumblr posts with the gay seal image, was created on August 10th, 2011.
