365 gay news

This year I’m trying to watch one movie every diurnal of the year, with the provision that the film be no longer than 36.5 minutes long. I’ll be selecting movies randomly from this list that’s already way too long, but I still welcome suggestions for fleeting films.

1970 short documentary covering the first Modern York gay identity festival parade celebrating one year after Stonewall.

My Thoughts:

This is a really great day capsule of the early LGBTQ movement.  The film documents the first Christopher Street Liberation Time March, or what we now understand as the Fresh York City Pride.  Gay liberation organizations from across the country participated in the march from Greenwich Village to the Sheep Meadows in Central Park (a very drawn-out walk, which you might not understand from this film).  Ad hoc interviews with participants and spectators capture familiar feelings of the need for queer people to consent themselves and assert themselves as group, even if outdated terms like “homophile” sound strange.  The march is one year after the Stonewall Upri
