Prayer for gay people
A Prayer for Our LGBT Neighbors
Sexual Orientation
June 2, 2021
June is Pride Month, a time when many who identify as LGBT will spend this month celebrating that identity. As Christians, we are mournful by the celebrations of this month, because not only do we understand that Pride Month is a celebration of sin, but we also understand that we will never be free until we find our identity, salvation, and hope in Jesus Christ.
Yet, that very realization makes Pride Month an incredible opportunity for prayer and for the Gospel to go forth.
So today, at the beginning of June, I want to share two things with you: an answer to your questions on this topic, and a prayer for our LGBT neighbors.
Answering Your Questions
First off, an exciting announcement: we are pleased to announce that we’re launching a recent video series! Ask Meridian is an opportunity for you to send us your questions – and get answers! Last month, we kicked off this initiative by asking you to send us the family policy questions you’ve always wanted someone to answer. Among the many submissions were questions asking how you could communicate your views on sexuality in a loving way.

How to Pray for Homosexual Friends and Family Members
Many Christians around the society are praying for homosexual friends and family members. Most are probably concerned that their loved one’s current choices will bar them from an eternity in heaven with God. How can we effectively pray for our lgbtq+ family and friends while keeping respect, kindness, and admire uppermost in our efforts?
Pray First That You Always Explain Others as Children of God
Probably the first and most important consideration when we pray for gay friends and family members is the state of our own hearts. As we approach almighty God with our petitions and prayers, are we looking upon them as children of God before any other consideration, including their sexuality?
Your queer family and friends are loved by God. He ordained their lives and counts them as precious. The affectionate He put into your life’s life He put into theirs, too. As you approach God in prayer, execute so with a loving heart and a genuine pursuing of His will in your being, and in theirs. You may be praying for giant change in your gay loved one’s life; for them to abandon their lifestyle, perhaps. Quit this in the hands of God, and trust His
This week is Transgender Awareness week, a week when we change our attention to understanding the experiences and needs of the transgender community. It’s also a week that concludes with the Transgender Day of Remembrance this Sunday, on Nov. 20th.
As people of faith, we require to educate ourselves this week on how we can be advocates for trans communities.
And, we also need to hold consecrated space—to pray, to hope, to grieve. Often people have asked me where to start, or how to hold a vigil, or what to say.
As Christian, I am reminded of how it is that Jesus taught his disciples to pray when they asked him for guidance. It’s a simple way, and it is a way that many have re-visited and re-worded for various people and occasions.
I have written this version of the Lord’s Prayer for those who might want to obey this simple way of praying for their transgender brothers, sisters, and siblings. Perhaps your society can use it this week in worship, or in TDOR services, or any other occasion to hold the transgender group in prayer. Perhaps you can use it in your possess individual prayer time this week as you think through how it is that you can be an ally to gender nonconforming people duri

Song
The great Catholic liturgical composes David Haas has shared this beautiful meditation on Psalm 139 (“I praise you for I am fearfully and wonderfully made”), composed on June 2019.
In his have words he said: “”You’ve Made me Wonderful” is a Taize-like refrain (or “mantra”) just repeated over and over as much as needed. It was simply composed as a song/gift for my friends in liturgy and melody ministry, as good as for clergy (Catholic and Protestant) who work with LGBTQ folks. I was just thinking about it existence Pride month, so the words to Psalm 139 came to mind, and I just sat at the piano and composed it in about three minutes. It came quickly and naturally. So I sent it (and posted on Facebook) as a “gift” for anyone who wanted to use it for liturgical or any other courteous of celebration this month and beyond, and well, I received over 400 requests for the score in about 36 hours.”
The sheet music is included in the first comment below. David says, “Let people know they can make copies for free, as prolonged as they comprise the copyright information.”
